Edit: we got First place! Laura clutched the reins just a tad tighter as the stallion slid to a stop, itching to wipe the flecks of dirt off her face but not daring to let go of the reins. At the moment, she was in control, but Dragon's pacing and slight attitude he'd granted her with earlier had given her reason to be suspicious of his behavior, they still had a few classes to go and she hoped he wouldn't turn sour on her until they left. The Ceimard stallion was low on the scale of patience and though he might be performing like a champ at the moment, he was unpredictable and could be throwing her off and causing a scene the next. She was lucky he managed to stay together long enough to be a good sport about the reining class, responding to every feather light clue she gave him to the point where she had to be careful not to confuse him with the slightest change in body language. It was a wonder how either of them managed to stay moderately clean with that monsoon of damp dust he was kicking up with each sliding stop, but after their turn it seemed as if she would have to be grooming him before the next class anyway; the underside of his tack had become sweat laden due to the humidity, and the dirt had clung to it where it had not been seen previously. She sighed, patting his neck as his nostrils dilated to take in the scent of a passing mare. "It's all good buddy. Let's get you cleaned up."
I've never drawn reining before (come to think of it I haven't drawn barrel racing either) so this is new to me! Sorry if the tack doesn't make sense. Though I think the tack here is much more logical than it was in the barrel racing entry.
This is also an example of the "work bun" Ceimards are known to use during activities with a lot of exertion involved (to keep the tail out of the way and free from dirt.)
